Packing for a family trip to Yorkshire

09 March 2022

Often family holidays will create lifelong memories and they are a special time for the whole family to bond, have fun and relax.

Yorkshire is a popular destination for family holidays with the region boasting a number of activities that people of all ages can enjoy such as walking on the North York Moors, surfing on Yorkshire’s top beaches, browsing around iconic towns such as Whitby and Scarborough and lots, lots more.

An added bonus is that there are plenty of family-friendly Whitby hotels and other types of alternative accommodation that holidaymakers can book-up for the family.

In fact, the most stressful part of any family break can be packing for your holiday and, with this in mind, we have come up with some items that you just have to pack.

The original Trunki

Travelling with young children can, at times, be extremely tiring but the original Trunki will certainly put a smile back on any child’s face.

A Trunki is a ride-on suitcase for globe-trotting tots and acts not only as a suitcase but a toy; a travel mate and a great place to rest weary legs.

There is also enough room inside a Trunki to pack a child’s clothes, toys and lunch. The Trunki even comes in a variety of colours with animal themes and character prints also available.

Karrimor Urban 30 Rucksack

Yorkshire has some absolutely great walks on offer and going on a family walk is a great way to bond.

If you want a picnic during your walk or want to carry some spare clothes, then the best way to do this is by purchasing a rucksack and if you want one of the best on the market then you should buy the Karrimor Urban 30 Rucksack from Sports Direct.

The Karrimor Rucksack offers durable construction with padded back and straps, adjustable buckles for a comfortable fit as well as featuring external pockets for extra storage space.

Some of the rucksack’s special features include a laptop compartment, an organiser pocket, a carry handle and even a bungee cord.

A map

Another useful item to pack for your family holiday is a map. Whilst you can access maps on your mobile phone, often you need a Wi-Fi connection, which isn’t very useful if you get lost on a walk in the Yorkshire countryside.

A specific map of Yorkshire is the best map to purchase and there are other specific maps available that show the best national parks in the area and Yorkshire Water’s Reservoir walks.

Swimwear

Yorkshire has a number of stunning beaches and you can see which ones are the best in our guide to the best beaches in Yorkshire.

To look the part during your trip to the beach you should consider buying some new swimwear for the whole family before you head off on holiday.

Lands’ End have a range of swimwear items on sale for women, men, boys and girls such as rash guards, water shoes and sandals, bathing suits and swimming shorts.

Digital camera for children

You should also give your children a digital camera that they can use to see what photographs they take.

Giving them a digital camera will not only keep them occupied but will make them feel really happy to think that you have entrusted them with a new camera. As children’s cameras can be bought for as little as £15, they are not very expensive but can provide hours of fun, documenting memories that will last a lifetime.

Waterproof Ponchos

As you will know all too well, the weather in the UK can change in an instant and therefore it is well worth packing some wet weather gear for your trip to Yorkshire.

For example, if you are staying in a Robin Hoods Bay hotel and decide to take advantage of the amazing walks that are located close-by to the beach, then you should pack some light coats or ponchos for your walk.

When it comes to your options for wet weather gear, ponchos are a great option as they are not only really light to carry but they keep your upper and lower body dry.

Most ponchos now feature hoods and have heat-sealed seams, so no water can seep through and get your clothes wet.

Travel Games

If you want your kids to have hours and hours of good old fashioned fun then you should buy some travel games.

No matter whether you are driving to Yorkshire, catching the train or flying there, a collection of travel games will keep your kids entertained throughout the journey. Most collections now feature a wide variety of games so that children have a range of games to play.
